The diplomat and the warlord are affect of the same mode. Basically are the personages more similars in the game and their powers are very good describe in the rules. This discusion has nosense. In my opinion sure....

Since the game is originally french, Id say use the french rules; they're the original!

The german & dutch versions also differ from the french and english. For ex, it's exlicitely written that you may choose to use a power whenever you want in your round, but only once.

If the rules have changed in later versions, may be because Bruno & company have improved the rules or adapted to the new cards.

Nope, the publisher changes rules if they want to. Mr faidutti often isnt aware of the changes, or isnt aware sooner than we are.

May be, but, why the publishers would want to change the rules of the original author?
Normally, they only are interested in money, or marketing...

Because they think their suggestions are better? Sometimes they are, but then you end up with different versions of the same game.

The US rules also say this:
"You may use you character's power once AT ANY POINT during your turn."

This already contradicts further rules. Someone asked mr faidutti why the condottiere was limited to destroying at the end of his turn while, and he replied that it didnt matter. It seemed only logical that he'd destroy after building.

Also, the codno & diplo cards dont say that they must use their power at the end of their turn. Quote:
"You may pay to destroy one districts of your choice."
"You may pay to exchange your district for another player's."

All this points to the idea that the restrictions are more a writing style or bad translation than a strict rule. This limits the diplo's principal power, first trading a card and then taking income from it!

No, the extended spanish rules says clearly that both abilitiies (diplomat and condottiere) are after building and use it implies the end of the round.
Theese are the rules i implemented two years ago, and i dont plan to change it after so long...
